Day 18 - Side effects

Unfortunately, today was not a very good one for Courtney. She started off the day with really low red blood cells. Anemia - it makes you weak and tired. She didn't get blood until the end of the day. So, she should have plenty of energy in her dreams tonight. Hopefully she'll wake up feeling slightly better than this morning. However, that probably won't be the case. The crummy day ended on an even crummier note as her body decided her haircut wasn't short enough. Just when we thought she might be out of the woods with regards to chemo side effects, one more has to rear its ugly head.

"Cancer sucks." That pretty much sums it up. Sorry. I tried hard to think of another way to phrase that, but nothing seems to do it justice. Except for the outpouring of love we've received, there really aren't many good aspects of cancer. My heart goes out to everyone, young and old, who has ever had to battle it, in whatever form it comes in. It's a hard battle to fight; fortunately we don't have to fight it alone.

So sorry about the hair loss! Just when you were getting used to your new hair cut, too. I want you to know that a generous lady contacted me and has a wig for you that she no longer needs. It brought tears to my eyes to read her email about her own struggle. Once that arrives, I will get it to Todd asap. I am sure it will be beautiful on you.

Conference this past weekend was great. I especially loved the talk on writing a daily "journal" about the things that God has blessed you with. I know sometimes it is hard to find the positive in tragedies, but believe me, they are there. Years from now, you will appreciate being able to read some of the blessings that came into your life through this difficult time.

I truly hope that today is a better day for you. I agree 100% that Cancer Sucks. I have seen the affects on my own family members. It is not a pretty thing, but you have a strong will and faith and I know you will come out of this stronger!!

Love, Emily, Roberto, Kelsi, Jordan and Mareena

Hair is just hair--you are you no matter what happens to your physical self. You are beautiful because of your kindness and selflessness that you have always shown. The kindness you are receiving now is only a portion of what you have administered to others. By the way, those doctors and nurses are blessed to have THE BEST PATIENT IN THE WORLD! We love you!

My hope for you, during all your struggles with the side effects of chemo and cancer, is that you see yourself the way we all see you. A strong, loving, faithful, caring and beautiful woman with a strong testimony of our Savior's love.

Right now, the picture on Wednesday's blog is next to the picture of Todd holding Kylie on his lap. You two have the same smile and same overall look. Hair or no hair, you are beautiful. I hope every day is better than the previous one - especially today.

Courtney, We're sorry to hear about the hair loss. You look adorable in short hair, so it won't take you too long to grow it back. With your face and smile you can even pull off no hair. We were so glad to see your sister's comment that today was a much better day. We pray for more and more of those for you. Love, Ron and Vicki
