Day 6 - The 'Therapy' has begun

Well, it's official. As of 10:52 this evening, Courtney has begun the harsh therapy that will cure her of this horrible disease. The plan as it stands now is to start her with doses of idarubicin for three consecutive days, starting tonight and cytarabine for seven consecutive days starting tonight. This phase, called the induction phase, usually lasts four weeks - one week of the drugs and three weeks to recover. The goal during this phase is to induce remission, meaning no detection of leukemic cells, and usually takes one to two phases to complete. A better explanation of this treatment can be found here - http://patients.uptodate.com/topic.asp?file=blod_dis/2244.

Once the therapy has begun, meaning now, Courtney will not be able to receive visitors except for adult members of her own family. And even they have to take severe precautions (thorough cleansing of hands and wear a mask) when visiting. This means our children won't be able to see their mother. Words cannot describe how difficult this has been, is and will continue to be. All we can do is endure this dificult time and look forward to the day we can all be back together and resume our lives as they were up until two weeks ago. We can get through this and will. "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;"

Glad to hear that they know what treatment to use. Sorry that you wont be able to see your kids for a while. It will be hard but worth it. Sounds like they are in good hands. Keep your spirits high and remember the Lord is on your side.

Alway in my prayers,
Amie Howard

i wanted so bad to see courtney before she couldnt have visitors. but my courtney was sick with a fever and i didnt want to bring in germs. please hug her todd. i have always liked courtney and i feel close to her and you and your kids. tell her that we are praying, chris and i. and we cant wait to see her when she is better. and we pray for the kiddos. i know what it is like being in the hospital and not being able to be "the mama". and waiting to find out what was wrong with my heart. i never want to do that again. but this is a much longer stay. but like you said...you WILL make it!!!
love-

Anyone reading this blog that wants to contribute to the Courtney's Angels fund can go to Bank of America and say they want to contribute to the Courtney's Angels Fund. PLease pass this on to anyone you know who wants to help. Thank you! And Courtney, you will be amazed at the list I'm keeping of everything everyone is doing. We all love you so much. You have touched so many people's lives. Thank you.

i am glad they finally started treatment. so sorry about not being able to see your children - i wish it was more like a month long cruise than a miserable stay at a hospital.

courtney, you have such an amazing spirit. everyone who has ever even had a conversation with you has seen how wonderful you are. you can get through this! it must be hard right now, but keep smiling!

Courtney:

I just found out this morning and spent my lunch hour reading every word of Todd's web log and looking at the pictures of your beautiful family. It doesn't seem like that long ago that you were the age of your daughters :) You are and will continue to be in the hearts and prayers of the Lytle family.

Much, much love,
Bea Lytle Kuckens
(back in Las Cruces)

Courtney, I know it must be hardest now that you need to limit your visitors -- especially your precious kids. But seeing the number of comments from your friends is so nice, but not surprising since you are so easy to love. It must be comforting having your mom and dad there everyday by your side -- it is for us family members that wish we could be there everyday. Chris and I look forward to being able to have a short visit with you next week when we bring Lindsey and Cristiana up to visit their cousins. You know how Kylie, Miranda and Emma love to play big sister to little Lindsey. It will be great to see how Aiden and Lindsey relate to each other as well since they are so close in age -- more hugs?! Love, Leticia (sister inlaw)

ps, todd -
we are all rooting for your sweet wife (OBVIOUSLY), but i can hardly imagine the weight of the world that is on your shoulders right now. just know that EVERYONE thinks you are a great guy, and courtney is lucky to have super husband. just wanted to let you know that YOU (along with your kids and your wife) are in our prayers too.

I'm so happy you're starting treatment, too. I'm sure the waiting seems like half the battle. Just know that I'm thinking about you constantly and can't wait to see you out of the hospital.
Love always,
Amy Flynn

My eyes well up with tears when I think about you not being able to be with your children. I am praying that the time goes by quickly and that you don't get too sick from the chemo. Go away, stupid Leukemic cells!
