Day 3 - AM

They actually did the bone marrow biopsy first thing this morning. They came in at 8:15, started by 8:35 and were done by 8:50. Courtney's doing well. It was probably more painful than she would have liked. They gave her morphine and an anit-anxiety medication, but they only gave it to her about three minutes before they started. They work fast, but not that fast. I think they really kicked in just as the doctor finished. For the next biopsy we'll stress giving her a little time for the drugs to take effect.

The pathologist who performed the biopsy indicated that they might not have definitive results regarding her type of AML until tomorrow. So, we're in the process of digging in. Courtney's parents and brother just got back with all sorts of cool things to decorate her drab room with. We're doing everything we can to make Court feel more at home. So far it's turning out really cute. I'll try to take some pictures later today when Courtney is awake. Now it's just a waiting game.

I know Courtney through Michelle Miller. I was very saddened to hear about Courtney's battle with cancer. I can understand how she is feeling since I went through the same last year (not leukemia). Heavenly Fathers loves us so much. He will be taking care of your family and Courtney. My family and I will keep Courtney and the doctors in our daily prayers. Miracles happen.

Hi Courtney!
I've been reading every post and every comment but just realized I should leave one too. We are thinking about you all the time and praying for you and the whole ward (maybe other wards too!) are doing a ward fast for you on Sunday. There are SO many people who love you and miss you. In case you were wondering, Cub Scouts is in good hands with Brother Smith and you don't need to worry! :) Can't wait 'til you're back!
Love, Brandi

I'm so sad the biopsy had to hurt! Yes- get those drugs earlier next time. I hope the rest of the day goes smoother and less painful! I love looking at your pictures-- I hardly know what your kids look like anymore, so I'm happy to see current pics. I'll be anxious to see more and see how cute Court's room turns out.
Love you, Marlane

Courtney,
I agree with what Todd said. No matter what kind of AML it turns out to be...YOU WILL BEAT IT!! You are so strong, and I know how hard you'll fight to take care of your babies as soon as possible - the cutest kids in the entire world (no offense to other parents reading this) :-).
We Love you!!
Amy (Todd's sis) and Matt

Hey guys- you are right about stressing to have time for the drugs to kick in. I will never forget Alexa's first biopsy. It was awful trying to hold down a 2-year-old. Now we insist she is under general anesthesia. Live and learn. Take tons of mental notes and remember that YOU are in charge of how you are treated. They will do what you say. Hope your room turns out to be nice. Anything to make the process easier. It sounds like you have a great support system with your family. That is so wonderful. Thinking of you all the time.

Todd and Courtney,
Thank you for putting together this excellent website for us to follow. Courtney- our thoughts and prayers are with you. I know how painful those bone marrow biopsies are. I have done about 20 of them and everyone was put totally under so that they couldn't feel it. You are a strong woman!! I know the chemo might be rough, but just keep in mind that if its "kicking your butt" than it is hitting those cancer cells hard. Also glad they got that Hickman in- it will be so nice to not get poked so much now. We'll be thinking of you guys (wish we were down there already so that we could be around to help!).
Love, Val and Joe

Dear Courtney & Todd ~

What a beautiful blog you have created - albeit with such a sad motivation. I've been keeping tabs on your daily battle through Tracy and there is no doubt that with the amount of prayer and superb medical attention you're recieving - we will be calling you a survivor in NO time! Please know that your Pittsburgh connection is busy asking God to bless you with a cure, protect you from fear and anxiety, lessen your pain, and to grant your sweet husband and children peace in their hearts knowing that mommy will be home soon!! Our prayers also extend to your families - to your parents, siblings, and friends. Please know that we are cheering you on and we have faith that you'll be well soon.

May God Bless You and your family.
Much Love - Your cousin - Maureen

Courtney and Todd,
I was at work yesterday when I first read all this. I had no idea!!! Everyone knows this families lack of communication.
Anyway...I can't imagine how scary this seems to you right now. 2 years from now we will look back and remember how hard you fought this terrible disease and will be amazed and how you are living life and loving those babies again...( and wonder how you do it staying home everyday with 4 kids!)ha. Those 4 beautiful faces (and Todd's not so pretty one-heehee) are the perfect reasons to live up to the Flynn name (that some of us reluctantly had to give up for marriage) and fight like a woman/soldier!
Keep your sense of humor...you have no idea how handy it will come to be in the future. Sounds like by some of the comments (ie..."I just spent the entire year growing my hair out")...you are already on the right path.
What a great idea Todd to start this site!
You are in all our thoughts and prayers.
Laurie, Eric and kids in NO WHERE, South Dakota.
PS. I would like a mailing address so I can get some of these pics from Tom's wedding sent out too if anyone knows it?(ie Amy or Molly or someone)

Hi you guys,This is the third time I've tried to do this, so we'll see if it works this time. The waiting must be so hard. It's hard for those who love you. I can only imagine what it's like for you. I hope you get the word soon so you can begin the fight. I know you'll win this battle, Courtney. I love the pictures on your site. Your kids are so adorable. How could they be anything but with you two as parents. We're thinking of you all the time. Love, Ron and Vicki
